Here are before pictures of some collision damage to the drivers door and door jam. When completed I'll post pictures of the completed project.

I can't get the pictures to show up bigger. When I had the carfax done on the car it never mentioned any accidents. I guess the previous owners could have not reported any if there were some. I always wondered about the little crack and rust in that corner. When the car was at the body shop getting painted, I forgot to look there while the panels were off.

Ok, the project resumes. I kinda got caught up in a 3.4 swap into my wifes Formula, but that's done now.
Door off.
The replacement door will get hung this weekend when I have a helper. For those of you that have never changed out a door assembly.... don't, it's an absolute nightmare.

You still need to work on the headliner too. Did you rent one of those door jacks? It will make the job a whole lot easier. Don't forget to replace the one door hinge pin I didn't get to.

rpro, the swap was on the red car you had for sale a while back? So you have decided to keep it?
My driver's side door needs some help, what's involved in doing that? I suppose it's one of those pins in the hinges right? How much of a nightmare is that?
How exactly do you plan to repair that crack? I hope your repairs go well....

Avengador1,
I have a new headliner waiting in the wings. I was going to use the FS kit you gave me, but the backing-board in the car is busted up around the dome light area. I just bought a new pre-made headliner to slip in... haven't got around to it yet. The hinges will all be rebuilt and painted up all purdy when completed.
Whitecloud,
The biggest hassle in changing out a door is the wiring. The disconnect sockets are wadded up behind the fuse block and extremely difficult to access. Using an engine hoist with a couple of straps keeps the door under control while removing/installing it.
The 3.4 came out of a GT I bought last fall. I simply swapped it into my wifes formula and will put her stock low mileage 2.8 back in the GT. When I get the GT back together with her old engine, I will sell it. This is the one I suggested you consider. It's not a bad car at all, with some aftermarket goodies and Eibach lowering springs. It will be priced in the $1200 to $1500 range no doubt. Below is a picture of it in it's current state.

Thanks for your reply. If I was in the market for a Fiero, I would be very interested in that car. I think it's a great price for a fine looking car. I wouldn't know how to act tooling around in that thing! As I recall, you had a red car that was super fine in the 5K range. That must be the wife's car huh?
I can only imagine how difficult is was to work up under the dash on those connectors. My back hurts just thinking about it. The only electrical thing not working on my car is the dome lights, and near as I can tell the power source for that is in the same area you're talking about. So I just carry a flashlight, lol!
If I decide to work on door hinges, will I have to remove the door? I'm not sure what's wrong with it, but it sags when open and has a lot of play in it, you have to close the door just the right way to get it to close correctly.
Are you going to grind the area with the crack and weld it, or put in another piece of metal? I suppose you're going to use a mig welder?

My apologies, it was railshot looking for an affordable GT, not you.... my bad.
You can change the pins and bushing on your door pretty easily. Just put a floor jack under the back of the door to take a little weight off it, and knock em out with a hammer and screwdriver.
My body and paint guy is going to repair the door jam. I suspect he'll grind it down some, then use bondo to make a paintable surface. This won't get done for another month or so, but I will be sure to post pictures of the finished work.

Added a nice touch today, stainless rocker kick plates with a Fiero logo. Pardon the finger prints.

They aren't Recaros. They are a no name "Monza" brand.
